New Year Greeting Cards

lasercut decoration gift attached svg file

“New Year”, yes yes it’s been just a little while since 2026 began, but it also took me some time to make this :)

It started with this image I found online and wanted to adapt for lasercutting. The outlines can be traced automatically

image base of design

And then I spent some time arranging all the outlines into 7 different layers (the 8th layer is a full rectangle without any objects), with inside-outside objects also in the correct order.

multilayer 8 same colour

The resulting design is meant to be repeated 8 times on different-coloured paper, for a total of 64 little cards. When starting with A4, the little card size is then A7, a little bigger than a bank card.

multilayer 8 permuted

These can then be mixed for a multicolour effect, with each card a different combination.

glued together layers

It takes about 10 minutes to glue every layer together per card, they also have to align correctly

Link to the svg. I recommend you verify the speed settings on your lasercutter (that it is as fast as can go) just because it has so many little things to cut. It takes at least 15min per A4 piece, so 2h of lasercutting for everything in one go.

Also feel free to start with A3 papers, just scale the design 2× – or 2× with A2.
