Sunset LED Lamp
This is a little table lamp project around an LED chip I bought online, the colour is white but its colour temperature is a very warm 1700K: late sunset mood – almost orange.
It has a power of max 10W and needs between 27 and 35V, going up for higher brightness. To power it and provide a brightness control, there is a DC-DC boost converter taking in 12V from a standard electronics power supply and stepping it up to the LED’s voltage.
Front, the brighness knob is easily visible and the on/off switch is just next to it.
View from above, the milky white plastic is a diffuser material specifically to soften light sources so they don’t hurt you eyes when looking at them.
The grey piece is an aluminium heatsink: the LED chip heats up quite a bit when at max brightness.
The center piece of the light: driver electronics are just the switch, power connectors, and the DC-DC boost converter.
The boost converter is modified so that the knob controls the output voltage in the range that is still safe for the LED.
Still, at max brightness things heat up and there’s a second heatsink for the boost converter as well.
The entire frame construction is just bent acrylic and open to the air. Additionally, the back screw acts as an adjustable foot: the light can be tilted forward or back by a small angle.
